Defending Democracy

“Steve has successfully pushed for election reform, and has led with the truth.”

Under Steve’s leadership, Minnesota has led the nation in voter turnout for four of the last five elections. In the last election, Minnesota was also the top state in the country in youth voter participation. And in 2026, the prestigious MIT Election Performance Index ranked Minnesota #1 in America – based on factors like wait times at polling places, absentee ballot administration, disability access, and post-election reviews.

Those achievements are not an accident. They’re the result of hard work, good laws, and a Minnesota culture that values voting.

Steve has played a leading role in reforms like voting from home, time off from work to vote, automatic voter registration, pre-registration for high school students, and restoration of the freedom to vote for people who have left prison behind.

Steve has pushed back successfully against unfair attacks on our democracy, battling disinformation, federal overreach, and attempts to weaken voter access.

He has strengthened security, working with law enforcement to find and expose the rare instances of voter misconduct.

TIME Magazine featured Steve on its cover as one of a few bipartisan “Democracy Defenders” in America who have protected the integrity of elections.
